EPS Pension Calculator
Every EPF member also builds a small pension through EPS. See what the formula actually pays.
Estimated EPS monthly pension
₹6,429
- Formula
- Salary x Service / 70
EPS-95 formula with pensionable salary currently capped at Rs 15,000 for most members. Service above 20 years earns a 2-year bonus in official computation, which this simple version does not add; treat the figure as indicative.
The pension inside your PF
A slice of the employer's PF contribution (8.33% of pensionable salary, capped) flows into the Employees' Pension Scheme. At 58, it pays a monthly pension by a simple formula: pensionable salary times pensionable service divided by 70. With salary capped at Rs 15,000 for most members, the pension is modest, which is precisely why knowing the number matters.
EPS is a floor, not a plan. The gap between this figure and your actual retirement need is what NPS, mutual funds and other investing must fill.
The EPS-95 formula
Monthly pension = pensionable salary x pensionable service / 70\nSalary capped (Rs 15,000 for most members); service capped at 35 years.Worked example: at the Rs 15,000 salary cap with 30 years of pensionable service, the estimated pension is 15,000 x 30 / 70 = about Rs 6,429 a month.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my EPS pension so small?
Because pensionable salary is capped at Rs 15,000 for most members regardless of actual pay. The formula is honest; the cap is the constraint.
Does service above 20 years earn anything extra?
Official computation adds a 2-year bonus to service beyond 20 years; this simple estimator omits it, so long-service members will see slightly more in practice.
When does the EPS pension start?
At 58 normally; an early pension from 50 is possible at a reduced rate, and deferring to 60 increases it. Family pension provisions also apply.
Higher pension on actual salary was in the news. Does it apply to me?
A window existed for eligible members to opt for contributions on actual salary following court rulings, with conditions and arrears. The rules are specific; check your eligibility with the EPFO before assuming.
